Fish Cracker
Last week my cousins from Kelantan came to our house. It is a tradition for us to bring some food as present while visiting family and friends. Some people even bring vegetables as present. Usually when people from Kelantan came to our house they often bring keropok ikan, or fish cracker. Kelantan and Terengganu is a state in the East Coast of Malaysian Penisular that are famous in producing fish cracker.
Fried Fish Cracker. Crunchy and delicious. |
Fish cracker is a crunchy and thin cracker which always eaten during pastime, tea time, while watching tv, reading and sometimes eaten to accompany rice and noodles. It is made from finely ground fish with some flour and seasoning which resulted in crunchy, salty, a bit fishy and a hint of sweet taste. Raw fish crackers are deep fried before eaten.

People usually eat fish cracker by its own, or with a dipping sauce called pencicah or colek sauce. I think the sauce known as Oolek sauce. It is easy to make at home but people usually just buy them. It is cheap, a bottle will cost around RM3.50.

We usually eat fish cracker during teatime, eat with instant noodles and during breakfast with nasi goreng or with bihun goreng (fried rice vermicelli).
